CUMBERLAND — Spencer Strider’s season may be over, but the Atlanta Braves still have a mission to complete.

Clad in a brace that engulfed his entire right arm while resting in a sling as he spoke to the media prior to Friday’s game against the Texas Rangers, Strider discussed the extent of his injury, the surgery that ended his season after just two starts and also his thoughts on the steady rise of elbow issues in the game.

Above all, Strider said the Braves will not have to change their goal for 2024.

“These guys don’t need me to win a World Series,” Strider said. “They’re going to pursue that journey, and I’ll be here to cheer them on.”

Speaking to reporters at his locker for nearly half an hour on Friday, the 2023 Major League Baseball strikeout leader revealed he was dealing with soreness in his pitching elbow throughout spring training. Despite his impressive results during the exhibition season, Strider said he was unable to bounce back as he normally would between outings.
